HPB Presents: Featured Collectibles Auction

Welcome to our second Featured Collectibles Auction! We were thrilled to receive a great response to our first auction, so this time, we wanted to share with you three very special collectibles that are available. Read on for item details as well as information on the bidding process!

Item #1: Casino Royale Records

A pop soundtrack and related rarities—
We recently acquired books, ephemera and demo records from the library of Charles K. Feldman, famed Hollywood agent (Greta Garbo, John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe and many others), and producer of A Streetcar Named Desire and many other movies, including Casino Royale. The movie soundtrack LP was long sought by audiophile collectors because its master was recorded very “hot.” It has become easier to find, but remains on many want-lists. In addition to the soundtrack, we offer two records from Feldman’s holdings: a demo disc of the movie’s title song, made for Feldman’s production company, and a promo disc of reviews sent to radio stations.

Item #2: Signed LSD LP & Flyers

Two countercultural icons, five signatures—
We present a copy of an LP about LSD, issued in 1966 by Capitol Records, which is kind of a documentary-on-record of acid, signed by the poet Allen Ginsberg and by Dr. Timothy Leary (twice). Ginsberg signed and inscribed the back cover: “This record is a hype by a Mr. Livingston, head of Capitol late 1960s,” and dated it 5/4/84. And Leary wrote under that, “I agree.” There are additional signatures of Ginsberg and Leary on two 1984 flyers—one for Ginsberg’s book-signing appearance at HPB in College Station. A one-of-a-kind set!

 Item #3: The Great Gatsby

An American classic—
Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby is one of the most widely read novels of all time. Because of its endurance as an American favorite for almost a century, demand for nice first edition copies has elevated their value into the stratosphere. Our copy doesn’t include the very-scarce dust jacket, and its cover has seen better days—but it’s all there, and the pages are still crisp. Here’s a little more information about our copy.
