What I am about to say is going to scare some people, but if you can’t be honest during Get Caught Reading Month…you’d better not get caught. I read whenever I’m stopped in traffic. The moment I pull up to a red light or a traffic jam, my book opens, and I’m transported to another world where traffic ceases to exist—at least momentarily. My co-workers find it fascinating to watch as I pull into the parking lot, book in hand, park and then continue to read until I’ve reached a good stopping point. They also comment whenever I walk down the hallway, my head buried in a book. Honestly, it’s not hard for me to get caught reading, but luckily I work in the perfect place, with people who love to read just as much as I do. Here are some of the crazy places our bibliomaniacs have been caught reading.
While waiting for take-out food.
At the movie theater before the previews begin.
While at the Indy 500 (Why not? After all, watching guys turn left all day can get a little boring sometimes.)
While exercising at the gym.
While playing fetch with the dog.
At a retirement party for a co-worker. (I’m sure they understood. We’re all book people here.)
In lines, any lines, whether at the store, the bank or Six Flags.
While giving birth (I bet her daughter is a book person, too.)
At the dining room table.
During a family reunion.
On a first date (with the man she married. I’m betting…he’s a book person, too.)
I’m glad to know I’m not alone, and there are others out there that can get caught reading just about everywhere. In fact, earlier this month, we caught several celebrities reading in one of our store.
So, where will you get caught reading this month?

I try to read at work. YES! There’s always a few minutes and sometimes a long wait in between projects and it should be fine, because my job as a proofreader/copy editor involves a lot of reading and staying on top of new trends, style and formatting. Well, that’s what I keep telling myself, however I still feel kind of nervous to be caught reading at work. It is probably just how I grew up and was always supposed to respect the authority! Ha!
People I know laugh at me because I walk down the street with my head buried in a book. They honk and…I’m oblivious. Aside from the above example of walking the dog, I’ve done them all. Add in, having a glass of wine in the tub…with a book of course.
